How to Avoid Entrepreneurship Burnout

We’ve all been burnt out at one point or another – That feeling of mental and physical fatigue which comes from working ourselves to the point of exhaustion.

Unfortunately, this feeling is very common for entrepreneurs. With all there is to accomplish, a lot to prove, having to overcome challenges and frustrations, business building will expose the highs and lows of your emotions.

So, how can you avoid entrepreneurship burnout? Here are some ideas:

Avoid The “How”

Asking yourself, “How am I going to get all this done?” is quite a daunting question which can be a recipe for burnout. Instead, ask yourself, “What needs to happen next?” This puts your brain in solution mode, rather than spinning with worry. Make a list, prioritize and boom! – Where there is a problem, there is always a solution.

Create a Daily Structure

Attempting to multitask extensively is without a doubt, a recipe for burnout. To prevent yourself from being burnout, you need to create a daily structure and stick to it. Find an accountability partner to track goals and progress; Outsource tasks that can be handle by others in a cost-effective manner, for better time management. Just because you do everything, it doesn’t mean you should!

Confront Your Fear

Just the thought of not working creates intense anxiety for a lot of entrepreneurs – indicating that fear is the driving force. You don’t need to do everything all the time, the 80/20 principle suggests that 80% of what you do isn’t that important. So, get clear on essential actions and take a weekly inventory of what not to do. Outsource, strategize, and trust.

Journaling

Its really NOT a millennial-nonsense! Journaling has been proven to produce positive mental health effects. You can face and release negative emotions, manage anxiety, reduce stress levels, and cope with depression more effectively. When you write down things that are bothering you, it becomes easier to prioritize concerns and help to recognize stress and anxiety triggers.

Fight Stress with the Right Foods

There are certain foods that can help you reduce your stress hormones and flush them out of your body. Foods that are high on vitamin C like oranges, bell peppers, strawberries, lemons and broccoli will help avoid burnout. Make sure to add them as part of your daily snacks or meals. Reduce caffeine consumption as well - Caffeine flushes out B vitamins and magnesium, which are needed for energy and emotional balance.
